The Information We Collect
When you register to participate in ClearCost Health, we will collect information which can be used to identify you as an individual or to contact you. ClearCost Health also collects information from your employer-sponsored group health plan. The information that we collect from your health plan includes the name and address of your medical providers, the services you received, the dates of service, and the amounts that were charged, allowed and paid, as well as other information. Any PII that ClearCost Health creates, receives, maintains, or transmits on behalf of your health plan is subject to federal privacy laws including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
ClearCost Health will never sell, rent, or give away your PII or any information from your health plan that can be linked back to you. We may provide such information to our subsidiaries, affiliated companies or other trusted businesses or persons for the purpose of processing information on our behalf. We require that these parties agree to process such information based on our instructions and in compliance with this Policy and any other appropriate confidentiality and security measures.
How We Use the Information We Collect
As stated above, ClearCost Health may use your information to calculate aggregate information, which will then be presented to other users in a way that provides useful information about the cost and quality of medical services at specific providers. It will not be possible for such aggregate information to be linked to you.
We use your email address and other personal information to identify you in our system as a participant in ClearCost Health. We also use your information to communicate back to you. Additionally, from time to time, we may also use your information to update you about ClearCost Health. We will give you the opportunity to request to be taken off any mailing or email list.
We may provide to third parties information about you that does not allow you to be identified or contacted. Such information may also be used in describing our site and services to prospective partners and other third parties, and for other lawful purposes. ClearCost Health reserves the right to supply anonymous data to partners for research or commercial purposes.
We may share information with your employer-sponsored group health plan for treatment, payment or health care operations, among other lawful uses and disclosures permitted by HIPAA, pursuant to a written agreement with the plan sponsor. We will not share your individually identifiable personal health information with your employers for employment-related purposes.
When you visit our website, we may record information about your visit. This may include the IP (Internet Protocol) address, browser type, and operating system of visitors to the site, time and date of visit, or pages viewed on the ClearCost Health website. ClearCost Health may use this information to conduct system administration, report information to partners or sponsors, and to conduct site analysis. This information will not be linked back to your name or PII.
We may also disclose information if we have a good faith belief that access, use, preservation or disclosure of such information is necessary to satisfy any applicable law, regulation, legal process or enforceable governmental request; to detect, prevent, or otherwise address fraud, security or technical issues; or to protect against imminent harm to the rights, property or safety of ClearCost Health, its users or the public as required or permitted by law.

Special note about email security: While ClearCost Health will maintain secure, password-protected email accounts, email is not as secure as other transmission options. It is your responsibility to know about the inherent risks of sending any personal information by email and act accordingly. ClearCost Health will only email you to communicate information with minimal privacy-related consequences, such as general notices of savings opportunities.
Regardless of the security precautions taken by you or by us, "perfect security" does not exist on the Internet or elsewhere. However, ClearCost Health always utilizes a high level of responsible technical and practical precautions to help keep your data secure and private.
We may modify or change our privacy practices from time to time. Any changes will be effective for all the personal and health information that we maintain, even information in existence before the change.
